Grab some references and start sketching out your lines Try out Terawell’s Design Doll to get the posing and perspective right, mock up something like the right figure and manipulate it over the sketch This is an optional step to keep everything dynamic and help the eye move around the picture. Pick one, put some golden spirals in there as guidelines and skew/distort the picture until the spirals fit important points in the picture. I wanted Nepeta Leijon (Homestuck troll) in a dynamic pose. The paper (manga 135) is very smooth and the blue guides were fairlyĮasy to remove if you know what you’re doing.įirst job is to sketch out some thumbnails. The ink (premium black 1) works quite wellīleeding. I dropped ink on the copic multiliner/IC Manga 110 paper, so unfortunately that data is lost. Its best and worst inks are pretty clear, and only water was better when it came to smudging the glossy bristol board. The Highlighter did not show up well in the scans.

It was especially efficient in erasing on glossy bristol, and was disastrous combined with the IC inks. Sharpie did similarly to the copic blender. The pattern here is less consistent, but we can still see some good streaks. I eventually went out an bought a marker set. Unfortunately, scouring the house the first marker I found (purple) was too dark to really see. The ink rubs right off most of the time.įor the water-based marker I used Crayola. Note: I used with a Sketch marker, so while I was careful to clean it between uses it’s possible some of the smudging is simply residue from the marker itself. I would recommend waiting for your piece to dry before colouring with Copics. The vast majority reacted at least for the first ten minutes. The Sharpie Ultra-fine and Fineliner both exhibited an interesting purple bleed. Markers not so much, and inks were a toss-up. Sharpie markers are your best bet for inking if you’re doing watercolours after.Īlcohol: Pens generally worked well again, with minor smudging. There was generally minor smudging/bleeding with most pens, as well as with the III inks. I’d recommend waiting longer - half an hour perhaps - in that case) (I did note while doing my dragon piece that very thick and wet dip pen ink lines sometimes took a bit longer than that to dry completely, though. Most of the pens did well, though, and nothing was smudgeable after 10 minutes had passed. The lower-left of the mouth in this case indicates that the smudging occurred immediately after the ink was applied.Īs expected, the dip pen inks fared the worst, as did the glossy side of the Bristol Board. The Permapaque marker did not have this effect.įor finger smudging, I sped up the dry time, since that is a common accidental occurrence. The Copic marker pad reacted to the markers oddly - both the Sharpie Fineliner and Copic Sketch have a distinct white texture, making them significantly lighter than they are on other papers.

With no smudging, there is little to report.

TERAWELL DESIGN DOLL MODEL DISAPPEARS HOW TO

This is unfortunate, but I have no clue how to solve the problem. My hypothesis is that the pencil prevents the ink from contacting the paper and being absorbed, so it stays on top of the graphite where it can be smudged. This does not align with my prior experience of erasing sketches from inked work though, which is strange. As I did not observe any smudging at all with these, I have not included them in this review. My original grids included smudging via kneaded, vinyl, and gum erasers. For everything else, 10 minutes is probably enough, but check the specific combination first to be sure. Definitely worth waiting for that to dry. Of all the inks tested, the Permapaque marker most consistently improved over time. The happy have indicates how long the ink was left to dry. I tested the inks on a variety of papers, and attempted to smudge them with different mediums. Review part 2 continues under the readmore, part 1 can be found here. This is a review of said products, a comparison to some other brands I had lying around, and a walkthrough of how I made the above image using IC Manga 135 kg paper and IC type 1 Premium Black ink. Imagination International Inc sent me art inks & paper.
